Vinegar Rinse/Spray for Shiny Hair

Vinegar has many uses, and one of it is for hair.. =D

Vinegar has many uses, and one of it is for hair.. =D

Vinegar has been known for many uses, and not just for cooking. And one of its uses is for making hair shiny.

Shiny hair is “shiny” because the shaft of the hair is closed or sealed, making the hair smooth. Vinegar actually seals the shaft so that is why it makes your hair really shiny. And, it also takes off product buildup on hair due to styling like hairspray, mousse, etc.

So, to make your own Vinegar rinse/spray, all you need is to dilute 1 part vinegar (Apple Cider Vinegar works best, but white vinegar works just as well) to 4 parts water. Then, use it to rinse out your shampoo/conditioner, let it sit for 5 mins, then you can choose to rinse it off of let it stay to dry.

Don’t worry about the funky smell, you won’t smell it as soon as your hair dries.

To help reduce the smell, you can add in a drop or two of essential oil. This will also help make your hair shiny.

You can also do a mixture for a spray bottle, and just spritz it after rinsing your hair after shampooing, works the same way.

Seriously, I have course and frizzy hair, especially where I live at is humid. And only after trying this, it made my hair manageable all day long! =D Try it, and tell me what you think.. =D

Curl your hair with a curling iron, with a TWIST.. =D

October 3, 2009 at 8:16 am (Curly) (, , )

I know, I know. It’s pretty obvious I love curls.. =D

Anyway… I was just browsing through some Japanese magazine scans, and I love how the models of the mags have curls that separate from each other. It’s hard to explain, so let me just show you a picture of it.

See how the curls are separated into thin strands of curls.. Cute right?

See how the curls are separated into thin strands of curls.. Cute right?

See what I mean?? Actually, what they did to achieve the look is separate the curls, takes the strands, then hairspray them.

But what if you don’t want all the product buildup? Or just lazy like me to spray each and every thin strand of hair with hairspray? I got a solution for you.

After putting in your favorite hair products, curl enhancers, etc., all you have to do is curl your hair the normal way you’d do with a curling iron. But, instead of curling sections right away, give the section 3-5 twists before putting it in the curling iron. After twisting the section, continue clipping it on your curling iron, then curl the normal way.

What this does is that the section is sort of “grouped”, and does not separate, as long as your products have good hold. If you curl the normal way, without the twisting, what you get is what i call “ribbon curls”. Ribbon curls coz they sort of look like curled up ribbons. =D

Fewer twists (like 2-3 twists) on the sections gives sort of a mix of a ribbon curl and the twisty curls. It’s grouped up, and at the same time, it still gives that softer look to the curl.

So, instead of setting your hair with pomade if your in a hurry, then this is a great solution. Will put up a pic for a sample result of what I’m talking about. Try varying on the twists. Experimentation is the key. =D

Hope this helps. Do comment. I love getting feedback. =D

Curls with no Heat! =D

September 29, 2009 at 11:26 am (Curly, Hair) (, , , , )

Afraid of damaging your hair? Don’t have the tools to achieve curls? Fuss-free hair style in the morning? Annoyed on how curlers are on your head and can’t sleep because of them? Then curls you can get overnight is the answer for you. =D I know this has been going on Youtube and when I first saw a vid about it, there wasn’t much about curling hair without heat. And now, a lot of similar vidz are available, each having different and unique way on how to do it. So, to give you an idea on how the curls look like, here is my pic I had on Facebook way back:

Cute curls, done with no heat.. =D and without spending time putting in curlers one by one, section by section.. =D

Cute curls, done with no heat.. =D and without spending time putting in curlers one by one, section by section.. =D

(Excuse the pale face. I haven’t got my makeup on since I was too excited to get a pic of my curls, since this was my first time doing it.. =D)

Cool eh? And yes, you don’t have to spend time sectioning your hair and individually putting the sections in traditional curlers, which are sometimes annoying and a hassle when you lay down.

So, to get these curls, what you will be needing are:

  • Hair pins, bobby pins, or elastics. (FYI: Hair Pins and Bobby pins are 2 different things. Will put a blog about it soon.. =D)
  • Your favorite hairspray – I do not exactly recommend what I use since all of us have different hair types, and some products may work for me that may not for you. So, you may use whatever you want, whether high-end or drugstore brand will work just fine.
  • Curl-enhancing mousse (This is optional. Sometimes, hairspray alone works for me, the curl-enhancing mousse gives the curls more definition)

Steps:

  1. So, the first thing you want to do is lightly mist your hair with hairspray. I’d recommend a hairspray that does not harden much. I find a scrunching spray works well. Just don’t put in a lot which would make the curls stiff. You want the curls soft. =D Or instead of hairspray, you could put in the mousse. Just squeeze out a glob of mousse on your palm, emulsify it, then spread it evenly throughout the hair.
  2. Next, part your hair from ear to ear. You should now have a top and part.
  3. Take the top part, and start twisting it into a tight bun up to the ends. Then, secure with an elastic or bobby pins. If you’re sleeping in with your buns, you can have an elastic, and bobby pins/hair pins for extra hold so they don’t fall off even if you twist and turn on your bed. Hehe.
  4. Repeat Step 3 for the bottom part.
  5. Get in your favorite PJ’s and sleep! =D
  6. In the morning, carefully take out the bottom bun first, and unravel the twist, raking or finger combing through the hair carefully. Do the same with the top part.

Tips:

  • You can experiment on how big/thick you want the buns to be. You can have the top part thicker than the bottom part or vice versa.
  • If you have thicker hair, then maybe you can do more buns. Experiment as well on the number of buns you put. Just remember, the bigger the bun, the looser the curls. The smaller they are, the tighter the curls. =D
  • You can either start with damp hair – damp in the sense that it’s near drying, because if it’s still a bit wet, it may not dry completely in the morning, and wet curls tend to fall out, and they won’t last all day. You could also do it with dry hair, since the hairspray will dampen it a bit. But hairspray dries quicker than water. =D
  • Style your hair however you style curly hair.. =D

I guess that’s just about it. I’ve worn this curly ‘do either casually at school (which is my photo above) and got compliments about it. They think I spent too much time for it, when in fact it did not take me more than 5 minutes to get my buns out. =D

I’ve also worn the look on my cousin’s birthday. I had the buns over night, and since all you had to do was take them out from the buns, I had them on until before the ceremony itself. I took the curls out when I was at the car, did a little pouf at the top, and I was good to go. =D

Here’s a pic of the day of the wedding:

Love the curls, but definitely hate how I look here. But its the only pic I have.. =D I was having a headache, hence the hard-to-paint face.. XD

And here is my with my buns still in place before the wedding to ensure the hold of the curls the whole day. =D Still looking great without any curlers in sight. =D

Keira Knightley’s Curls

September 26, 2009 at 3:29 pm (Curly, Hair) (, , , )

Keira Knightley's Loose Waves/Curls just looks so amazing!

Keira Knightley's Loose Waves/Curls just looks so amazing!

Here’s another look from Glamour.com’s DIY Makeovers, this time, Keira Knightley in the spotlight. To get this look, just follow the easy steps given by Glamour.com.

Boho girls like Keira Knightley aren’t into high-maintenance hairstyles, and yet they almost always win the belle-of-the-ball award. To score a fuss-free, super-sexy hairstyle like theirs, all you need is a set of hot rollers—and 5 to 10 free minutes. Don’t believe us? Read then try this:

  1. Plug in hot rollers set. (You’ll want a set that includes large 1- to 2-inch rollers.) Watch the clock: It will take 3 to 5 minutes until curlers are hot to the touch and ready to use.
  2. If your hair isn’t dry already, spritz with thermal protectant and blow-dry loosely, focusing on the roots near your part. (You’ll want hair smooth and straight there, but no need to make rest of hair pin-straight.)
  3. Starting at the front, take a 3- to 4-inch section of hair. Applying the tips of the hair to a large 1- or 2-inch curler, wind curler up hair with the curler facing out. (If you curl with curler facing in, you risk getting old-school poodle curls.) Stop curling just above the ear and secure with curler pin.
  4. Repeat around the head, until all the hair is pinned up in curlers. If you have bangs, don’t curl with curlers, simply style as usual.
  5. Wait 5 minutes (less if your hair is thin or takes to curls easily), and then take curlers out. Separate with fingers or wide-tooth comb and spritz with medium-hold spray to keep curls in place.

Another easy look, perfect for school, work, or just a stroll around the park or mall. Give it a try and tell me what you think.. =D

Lauren Conrad’s Loose Updo

September 26, 2009 at 3:01 pm (Hair) (, , , , , )

Lauren Conrad's Updo

Lauren Conrad's Updo

Since I am such a fan of Glamour.com, I decided to sign up for their DIY Makeover.. =D And I saw this look, which was just too great for me to pass. So, I wanted to share it with you guys too. Here is an excerpt from Glamour.com…

If fussy hairstyles aren’t your bag, try Lauren Conrad’s laid-back braided ‘do. The California-girl hairstyle works if you live in the Hollywood Hills, Houston or anywhere in between! A pioneer of the recent braided boho hairstyle, Lauren Conrad turned up at the 2008 Emmy Awards with this low-key twist on a red-carpet updo. She makes it seem fresh and formal by adding a few tightly woven strands into her loose, sexy chignon.

Here’s what you need:

  1. Texturizing Spray
  2. Hair Dryer
  3. Hair Pins / Hair Grips
  4. Curling Iron

Here’s how to get her cool, laid-back look:

  1. Start by blow-drying clean hair. Spritz with texturizing spray.
  2. Wrap thick sections around a two-inch-barrel curling iron and gently separate curls with fingers.
  3. Create two to three thin braids on either side of your part. Don’t braid plaits too tightly—they’ll need to move around for the next step.
  4. Leaving braids hanging in the front, pull back waves and braids into a loose, messy bun. Twist hair slightly before tucking tails of bun underneath the mound waves and secure with pins.
  5. Taking one braid at a time, gently pull back each plait and tuck it into waves, securing with pins. Set with light hairspray.
  6. Loosen a few front pieces to frame the face.

Easy right?? So, why not give it a try? Tell me what you think and comment back.. =D
